Which ingredients are good for your digestive system?

Discover 11 ingredients that can help you improve your digestion!

As some of you may already know, there are several factors involved in improving your digestion . Think of drinking enough, eating slowly and exercising regularly. An important factor is therefore nutrition.

Good and bad bacteria

Your intestinal flora contains good and bad bacteria . The bad bacteria mainly stem from artificial sweeteners and other processed foods. Those bad bacteria cause your digestion to deteriorate, you get a bloated feeling and possibly also diarrhea. That is why it is very important to limit your intake of processed foods.

Good bacteria ensure that our food is better digested, vitamins are absorbed, your hormonal household is supported, your immune system is promoted and much more.

Good bacteria can be found in natural products , such as sufficient fruit or vegetables, and therefore not in products with unhealthy fats and a lot of sugars.

The right ingredients

See below a list of x number of ingredients that contribute to your digestion:

  • Whole grains > Rich in fiber and therefore very good if you suffer from bloating, nausea or flatulence. Think of brown rice, oats and whole wheat bread.
  • Linseed > Linseed cleans the intestines and ensures that your digestion is better. When linseed breaks, a kind of mucus is released and this mucus forms a layer in your intestines that attaches to waste products in your intestines. This in turn ensures increased intestinal peristalsis and therefore improved digestion.
  • Fruits and vegetables > Leafy greens, such as spinach or kale, are very good sources of fiber and contain nutrients such as folic acid, vitamins C, K and A. Various types of fruit are also very good. This concerns the following fruits: banana, apples, blueberry, kiwi, cantaloupe, papaya and peach.
  • Red beets > Beets contain good fiber, potassium and magnesium. Red beets are very good to cure problems like constipation. It is best to eat red beets raw.
  • Avocados > Avocados are super rich in fiber and also contain healthy unsaturated fats. This promotes the digestive processes.
  • Ginger > Ginger offers many digestive benefits. Ginger stimulates the bile, gastric juice and saliva production that contribute to this. It also stimulates the production of digestive enzymes that ensure that your food is properly digested.
  • Honey > Honey has a slightly laxative and diuretic effect and can therefore help if you have digestive problems. In addition, honey is a natural probiotic with good bacteria such as lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. This keeps your intestinal flora in balance.
  • Garlic > Garlic promotes digestion and stimulates intestinal function. Garlic also helps to reduce intestinal cramps and to calm the intestines.
  • Sweet potatoes > When you eat sweet potatoes with their skins on, they contain a lot of fiber and aid your digestion. Sweet potatoes are also a good source of carbohydrates and manganese.
  • Kimchi > Kimchi consists of fermented Chinese cabbage and vegetables, which is seasoned with garlic and chili paste. Kimchi contains many good bacteria that are necessary to maintain a healthy intestinal flora.
  • Lemon water > Lemon contains a lot of vitamin C and the combination of water and lemon helps to improve your digestion. It is best to make lukewarm water with lemon juice in the morning.

Vegan protein powders that promote your digestion

At Green Harvey we are aware of the problem that some athletes experience poor digestion/bloating from protein powders. That is why we responded to this during the development of Green Harvey with the following ingredients:

Acacia fibers > All our Vegan protein powders contain acacia fibers. Acacia fibers contain 90% fiber and are a good prebiotic for the intestinal flora. Acacia fiber promotes a feeling of fullness, is gentle on the stomach, can relieve constipation and also reduce IBS symptoms.

Digestive enzymes > All our Vegan protein powders also contain digestive enzymes. These are enzymes that cut the proteins at the end of the chain and in the middle of the protein chain, leaving you with loose amino acids and making the Vegan protein powders easier to absorb. This way you don't get a bloated feeling.

No lactose > Many athletes get a bloated feeling / poor digestion of lactose in protein powders (found in whey protein powders). Lactose is a milk sugar that can be found in dairy and because our Vegan protein powders are lactose-free, you will not suffer from bloating / poor digestion.
